Hynds Foundation Scholarships Programme

Hynds Foundation Engineering

History of the programme

John and Léonie Hynds initiated annual University of Auckland scholarships for Manurewa High School students in 2012, through the First Foundation.

Following the formal establishment of the Hynds Foundation in 2017, the foundation took over the facilitation and co-ordination of the scholarships and established our own Scholarship Programme with support from the wider Hynds team.

Until 2023, the scholarships focused on supporting a pathway to the Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) degree at University of Auckland.

In 2024, the scholarship opportunity was broadened to include a wider range of tertiary education pathways, and to include both Manurewa High and Papakura High School students.

A valuable part of our Scholarship Programme are the mentors we enlist from within the Hynds business. The guidance, support, and experiences shared are invaluable to students – some of whom may be the first in their family to attend university.

The Hynds Foundation is proud to be associated with these hard-working young people. We have appreciated seeing their progression into fulfilling careers.
