The Hynds Foundation is delighted to have supported the development of the New Zealand Liberation Museum – Te Arawhata – at Le Quesnoy in northern France, alongside other benefactors.
“We are so proud of the soldiers who gave their lives in World War 1 to secure freedom for the people of this place,” says John Hynds. “The Kiwis’ courage and ingenuity won the deep respect of Le Quesnoy people and led to a remarkable and enduring friendship. Their service and sacrifices are less well known than those in Gallipoli. The museum enables their story to be told in a compelling way.”
The stories, which have been captured and displayed by the creative expertise of Weta Workshop, are raw, emotive and thought provoking.
The Liberation Museum will become the place that future generations of New Zealanders will visit when overseas and feel a very real sense of pride. We hope that school groups and New Zealanders of all ages can connect with this unique town and reflect on our nation’s extraordinary contribution to freedom in WWI.
